What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover involves restoring or rebuilding teeth in order to improve the appearance and restore function to your bite. This type of procedure is performed by your dentist and relies on procedures such as dental crowns, dental veneers, dental bridges, dental bonding and other cosmetic procedures.

How can a smile makeover help?

A smile makeover can address many issues such as:

  • Fractured or broken teeth due to injury

  • Spaces or gaps between teeth

  • A discoloured smile

  • Teeth with severe wear due to acid erosion from acidic foods

  • Teeth with severe wear due to grinding and clenching of teeth (bruxism)

  • An uneven bite due to misaligned, missing, or decayed teeth

What is the process?

The first step in the process will be a consultation with your dentist to assess your oral condition, determine your needs, and create an individualized treatment plan. A variety of features, such as the colour of your teeth and length and shape of your teeth, will be taken into account when preparing your treatment plan. Depending on the treatment plan that is recommended, it may take a couple of dental visits or more inorder to complete treatment. This will vary based on your individual needs and oral conditions.

Smile makeover treatment types

Depending on the individualized treatment plan recommended for your dental needs, one or more of the following procedures may be used during your smile makeover.

Replacement Fillings

Tooth coloured composite resin fillings may be used to replace silver or amalgam fillings for a more natural look if the patient desires.

Teeth Whitening

Stained or discoloured teeth can be whitened in-office or at home.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are used to modify the colour, shape and size of teeth for an even looking smile. They can also be used to reduce the space between teeth.

Dental Crowns

These are used to prevent heavily filled teeth from fracturing by reinforcing them as well as improving the tooth’s appearance.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is used to close a gap or space left by a missing tooth. It helps to retain your facial appearance and restore function in the affected area.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding materials are used to fix small chips or uneven areas of a tooth. It can also be used to modify the shape of your teeth.

Dental Implants

Missing teeth can be replaced, and function can be restored in affected areas, with the use of dental implants. These are the best tooth replacement option available.

Invisalign

Invisalign straightens teeth by using clear aligner trays that are easy to remove. They can help to close spaces between teeth and align teeth for improved appearance and function.

Gum Reshaping

This procedure is performed to modify the shape of the gums. It can make short teeth appear longer after excess gum tissue is removed.

Tooth Lengthening & Widening

A combination of dental bonding, porcelain veneers and gum reshaping may be used to lengthen and widen a tooth to match nearby teeth.
